At 15, Greta Thunberg skipped school, sat down outside Swedish parliament and kicked off a global movement — inventing the Climate Strike. She’s been fighting climate change ever since, with her one special power: staying ferociously genuine.
When she staged the first-ever Climate School Strike in 2018, she skipped 3 weeks of school until she got the attention of the Swedish Parliament. Later that year, Greta was named one of TIME Magazine’s Most Influential Teens.
Thunberg is also one of those rare activists who lives and breathes her principles. Despite all her travels, she refuses to fly. She took a 32-hour train trip to Switzerland for the World Economic Forum; and sailed to New York for 2 weeks in a zero-emission yacht for the UN’s Climate Action Summit.
Greta even has her speeches fact-checked by up to 5 scientists to ensure they’re accurate. One such speech, to the UN Climate Action Summit in 2019, was watched by millions, and 2 months later she was named TIME Magazine’s Person Of The Year. And in 2020 she was the first ever recipient of the Gulbenkian Prize for Humanity.
Just 3 years after her first solo Climate Strike, 30,000 people marched with Thundberg at COP26, and the world stopped to take notice. Now, every September, Climate Strikes take place the world over – in 4,500 locations across 150 countries.
Half-measures are simply not in her nature. And because of her unwavering integrity as a leader, the Climate Strike movement continues, full-steam ahead.
